Just like Pompei, Hercolaneum was also destroyed by the eruption of the Vesuvius in 79 A.C.
An impressive amount of mud and ash covered and penetrated each opening, then solidified in a compact layer of 15 to 20 meters.
These
special circumstances allowed the preservation of highly perishable
materials such as papyrus and foods. All these materials are exhibited
at the Archeological Museum of Naples that also contains a large
collection of artifacts from Pompei, Stabiae and Hercolaneum.
The
collection includes products from Greece, Rome and from the Renaissance
times, and is considered as one of the most important archaeological
museums in the world.
Hercolaneum is much smaller than Pompei, but its beauty is almost intact.

Tour Route:
The driver will come and meet you at yotur hotel and drive you to Hercolaneum where you will meet your English speaking guide.
You will visit the houses of the archeological site, almost intact and full of frescos.
The visit of Hercolaneum will be followed by a short drive to reach the Archelogical Museum in Naples. After the Visit of the museum the driver will take you back to your hotel.
