Piazza della Signoria, one of the most famous and photographed squares in the world, is the heart of Florence and of the Renaissance. Our guide will unveil secrets and stories of Florence and the Piazza where the worlds most famous artists used to live and work. The Piazza is an incomparable "open-air museum" with the beautiful statues of the Loggia dei Lanzi and the elegant Palazzo Vecchio, political headquarters and symbol of Florence for centuries. The Palace was founded in 1299 and was the seat of the Seignory in the 15th Century. In 1550 Cosimo de' Medici appointed architect Vasari to transform it into a sumptuous palace for the grand ducal family. Inside it we can admire an elegant courtyard, the beautiful Salone dei Cinquecento and the "Monumental Quarters" frescoed by Ghirlandaio, Salviati, Bronzino and Vasari and with sculptures by Michelangelo.
